The California electric market is comprised of the ISO, the power (PX), and the scheduling coordinators (SC). In this article, an overview is given on the California ISO, which is considered to be a 'from-the-ground-up effort'. Focus is on the basic structure of the California ISO, particularly its five major components: metering data acquisition system (MDAS), scheduling infrastructure, scheduling applications, balance of business systems, and power management system.
