摘要
The occurrence and the biological functions of cytochrome c domains in all the three kingdoms of life (Eukaryota, Bacteria, and Archaea) are examined. Biological processes and metabolic and interaction pathways are considered at different levels of knowledge. In a total of 188 genomes scanned, 736 proteins are identified. Evidence is obtained for cytochrome c serving as an all-purpose electron transporter capable of interacting with a variety of redox enzymes.
