摘要
To achieve optimum mechanical properties the reinforcement sizing system has to be fully compatible with both reinforcement and resin systems. In this study, four different silane and one titanate coupling agents were used, at three different concentrations, to achieve optimum mechanical properties in unidirectional glass reinforced vinyl ester composite materials. Interlaminar shear strength and tensile testing have been conducted to determine the performance of the sizes on the interfacial bond strength. It has been established that 0.2% silane A172 coupling agent formulation results in a strong bond. Also, when the glass fibre has no coupling agent protection in the coating, the tensile strength of the composite is reduced drastically. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Limited.
