Adsorption kinetics of β-carotene from soy oil using regenerated clay

摘要
The adsorption of beta-carotene from soy oil with regenerated clay is studied by employing a UV-Vis spectrophotometer to measure the concentration of beta-carotene in the oils before and after adsorption. Experimental results indicated that the adsorption efficiency and regeneration efficiency of the regenerated clay was 90.5 and 94.4%, respectively. The adsorption rate was found to be increased by increasing the ratio of clay/oil, agitation speed or temperature. The rate was also found to be increased by decreasing the particle size of the clay. The empirical rate expression for adsorption of beta-carotene were determined as In C/C-0 = -1.052 x 10(10) exp (-21,874/RT) d(-3.227)r(0.908)s(0.142)t(1/2) (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V.
