摘要：

Ball lightning, a slow moving ball of light about 30 cm across occasionally seen at ground level during thunderstorms, is discussed. The metal-oxidation model suggests that ball lightning is produced as a result of oxidation of metal oxides. The analysis shows that this model predicts the correct luminosity, energy content, color and lifetime for ball lightning.
