Didelphic uterus and obstructed hemivagina: Recurrent hematometra in spite of appropriate classic surgical treatment

We report the case of a young girl with uterus didelphys, obstructed vagina and ipsilateral renal agenesis treated by diagnostic laparoscopy and resection of the vaginal septum by a vaginal approach in order to drain the distended uterus. Despite classic surgery, the myometrium on the treated side never recovered its normal function, with subsequent persistence of recurrent hematometra. Laparoscopic subtotal hemihysterectomy had to be performed to avoid retention of hematometra and secondary pelvic inflammatory disease. Copyright (c) 2007 S. Karger AG, Basel.
