摘要
MPEG-2 decoding with internal resolution scaling degrades video quality particularly for interlaced video with high vertical activities. Previously known methods [1][3] apply the same algorithm to each picture without utilizing the observation that errors in different types of pictures (I, P, or B) contribute differently to the total degradation. We propose a solution that mixes high- and low-complexity algorithms to ensure that more critical pictures are processed with higher quality thereby increasing the overall video quality. Simulation results confirm that such an approach yields a better trade-off between quality and complexity than simply applying a single high- or low-complexity algorithm to all pictures.
