Job preferences of people with severe mental illness: A replication

This study explored the job preferences of 152 adults with severe mental illness who were participating in vocational rehabilitation programs. Data were collected and analyzed on job preferences, obtainment of competitive employment, job satisfaction, and job tenure as part of the Washington, DC, Vocational Services Study! When these clients entered vocational programs, 97% expressed job preferences, and their preferences tended to be realistic and stable over time. The majority of jobs that were obtained matched the consumers' expressed preferences. However; job matches were associated neither with higher satisfaction nor with longer tenure.
