ZigBee technology and Bluetooth are compared for industrial applications. ZigBee has the potential to operate over a greater range especially in 'low clutter' radio environments. Where high data rates are important Bluetooth clearly has the advantage and can support a wider range of traffic types than ZigBee. Bluetooth devices are constantly alert for available networks for them to join whereas ZigBee has been developed specifically to permit low power consumption and years of battery life. ZigBee supports most of the widely used unlicensed ISM bands in Europe, NA, and around the world while Bluetooth operates solely on the 2.4GHz band.
