EPR studies of Li1-x(NiyCo1-y)(1+x)O-2 solid solutions

Ni3+ EPR measurements were used to investigate the electronic structure and ion distribution of Li1-x(NiyCo1-y)(1+x)O-2 (y = 0.13 and 0.8 less than or equal to y less than or equal to 1.0) solid solutions prepared between 450 and 800 degrees C. The data on the Ni3+ distribution were obtained from the analysis of the EPR line width. The results show that a transition from non-random to a random Ni/Co distribution in the NiyCo1-yO2 slabs occurs between 650 and 750 degrees C. Li-6 solid state MAS NMR and magnetic susceptibility measurements are in good correspondence with this interpretation. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
