Influence of the nonequilibrium superconductivity effect on the quasiparticle current-voltage characteristics of intrinsic tunnel Josephson junctions

We have numerically evaluated the influence of the nonequilibrium heating effect on the quasiparticle current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of a superconductor-insulator-superconductor tunnel junction made of a two-dimensional d-wave superconductor based on two different models. It is found that the self-injection of quasiparticle current causes significant I-V curve deformation due to the influence of the nonequilibrium superconductivity effect. The results are applied to the I-V curves observed in Bi-2212 intrinsic tunnel Josephson junctions to obtain a good agreement. The difference between the nonequilibrium superconductivity effect and simple Joule heating is discussed.
