摘要
Niche construction occurs when organisms (through their metabolism, activities and choices) define, partly create and partly destroy their niches. Niche construction regularly modifies both biotic and abiotic sources of natural selection in environments, and thereby generates a form of feedback in evolution. Examples of evolutionary consequences include extragenetic inheritance (ancestral niche-constructing organisms transmit legacies of modified natural selection pressures in their environments to their descendants); and indirect gene interactions (where the differential phenotypic expression of genotypes at one locus are influenced by the genotype at another locus, indirectly via the environment). -P.J.Jarvis
