The influence of base structure and carbon coating on the corrosion resistance of Co-Cr-Mo alloy

This paper presents the results of investigations into the corrosion resistance of the Co-Cf-Mo casting alloy with a carbon coating of a diversified structure and surface preparation technology. The alloy structure and hardness were investigated in the as cast and saturated states, as was its pitting corrosion resistance, using the potentiodynamic method in conditions simulating the tissue environment In general, it was found that the deciding effect on the physical and chemical properties of the carbon coating was the number of carbides occurring in the metallic matrix and the presence of the passive film created on the metallic base.
