Effect of chromia and alumina coatings on the high-temperature behaviour of F17Ti stainless steel in air: Effect of a rare earth element oxide

摘要
The MOCVD technique was used to deposit thin oxide films of chromium, aluminium and rare earth elements on stainless steel surfaces. These oxides were deposited alone or together, successively or by codeposition. Coated samples were then submitted to high-temperature oxidation tests, under isothermal conditions at 1273 K, or under cyclic conditions. An improvement in steel behaviour was observed in every case, particularly for codeposited Ln(2)O(3)/Cr2O3: the weight gain decreased during oxidation, and the scale spallation phenomenon disappeared under cyclic conditions, enhancing the alloy lifetime.
