MgTGe (TMn, Fe) compounds of the CeFeSi-type.: Magnetic structure of MgMnGe from neutron diffraction study

摘要
The CeFeSi-type compounds MgMnGe and MgFeGe have been prepared by reaction of the elements at 1000 K. The magnetic properties of the MgMnGe compound have been investigated by neutron diffraction. MgMnGe orders antiferromagnetically above room temperature. Its magnetic structure is characterized by a staking of antiferromagnetic (0 0 1) Mn planes with the moments (approximate to 3.3 mu(B) at 2 K) lying in this plane. The magnetic behavior of the Mn sublattice is compared to those observed in the isotypic RMnGe and in the closely related RMn2Ge2 and RMnSi2 (R = Ca, Sr, Ba, La and lanthanide) compounds. The magnetic arrangement observed in MgMnGe is connected with modifications in the chemical bond in this compound. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
