Solid state lithium batteries were constructed with Li2FeS2 as an anode material and Li+ ion conductive glass as an electrolyte. The employment of the solid electrolyte makes the electrode reaction of Li2FeS2 reversible, and therefore the battery, Li2FeS2 / LiCoO2, is also rechargeable. The negative electrode contains TiS2 besides Li2FeS2. The local cell reaction between TiS2 and Li2FeS2 forms LixTiS2. It is considered that the LixTiS2 improves the electrode performance of Li2FeS2 by its electronic and ionic conduction. The Li2FeS2 / LiCoO2 battery with dimensions of 6.8 mm(phi) x 2.1 mm(t) showed a capacity of 2 mAh and the current drain of up to 400 mu A.cm(-2).
