摘要
This paper describes the thermodynamic reasoning required to relate impurity segregation to boundaries in solids with the associated energy changes. Using the reasoning of McMahon and Vitek, the analysis is further expanded to describe the influence of the boundary energy variations on the boundary fracture stress. Examples of the fits between the theory and experiment are given for Al and Mo alloys.
