摘要
Commercially-available carboxylic acid anhydrides and specific anhydrides synthesized from readily-available starting materials were reacted with radiata pine sapwood. The acylation and the biological durability of the assay of succinate ester wood product were examined. It was found that radiata pine sapwood is most reactive towards simple, low molecular weight, saturated aliphatic carboxylic acid anhydrides to give esters and ester-acids from the cyclic anhydrides. A steric effect on the uncatalyzed acylation reaction was observed. Among the anhydrides investigated, succinic was the most reactive alternative to acetic anhydride and also gave a wood succinate half-ester product with good biological durability towards decay fungi and partial resistance to termite attack.
