Helicobacter pylori predisposes to gastric cancer and lymphoma. Why only a small subset of infected patients develop gastric cancer, and even more rarely gastric lymphoma, challenges scientists around the world to define the bacterial and host genetic alterations that allow these diseases to occur. Simultaneously. clinicians have already introduced H. pylori eradication programmes to cure or suppress gastric lymphoma, and interventional trials are in progress to determine whether H. pylori eradication will also prevent gastric cancer.
