Most proximal humeral fractures present acutely, either as an isolated fracture or from multiple trauma. Although the definitive diagnosis is made with proper radiographs, it is important to take a thorough history and perform a complete physical exam. Careful patient assessment and meticulous surgical technique are essential to prevent complications. Shoulder hemiarthroplasty is a well-accepted surgical procedure for the treatment of subtypes of proximal humeral fractures.
