Upper limit for quenching rate coefficient for cold electron-metastable-atom collisions

摘要：

A simple model based on 100% quenching of metastables by threshold electrons transmitted to short distances on the polarization potential is employed. Values of the quenching rate coefficients of 1.6 x 10(-6) cm(3) s(-1) at threshold and 0.92 x 10(-6) cm(3) s(-1) at 50 K are estimated for electron collisions with metastable xenon and 1.33 x 10(-6) cm(3) s(-1) at threshold for metastable calcium.
