cDNA cloning and expression of a sweetgum gene that shows homology with Arabidopsis AGAMOUS

摘要
An AGAMOUS homolog (LAG) was isolated from sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua L.), a monoecious dicot tree species using a PCR-based DNA cloning method. The predicted protein sequence is 74.7% identical to PLENA, and 70.7% to AGAMOUS. Its RNA accumulation is limited to floral tissues, from stamen and carpel primordia in the flower bud to immature anthers in male inflorescences and the late stage of carpels in female inflorescences. In nearly mature flowers the expression is high in stamens and even higher in pistils. These data are consistent with the assignment of LAG as the sweetgum AG gene. The expression pattern appears different from that of redundant AG genes of maize. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved.
