L-shell filling rates of highly charged ions in metals

摘要
The role of valence electrons in filling inner-shell vacancies of highly charged ions in metals is studied using self-consistent solid state screened potentials. Explicit results for Ne and N ions in Au and Al targets are presented and discussed in connection to recent experiments. These filling rates are fundamental in understanding the neutralization and relaxation of highly charged ions in solids.
