Arrayed helical antennas (AHA) for personal telephone handsets have been developed for both low-SAR and omnidirectional radiation patterns, where the AHA has two helical antennas along the direction of the width on the top of personal telephones. A comparison of the SAR value between the AHA and a conventional helical antenna (CHA) demonstrates that the SAR value of the ARA is 35% less than that of the CHA. Good performance of the radiation patterns and the VSWR of the AHA are also shown by using the experimental measurements. (C) 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
