摘要
A study on the notch toughness improvement of low nano-SiO2 filled polypropylene (PP) composites is presented. A compliant interphase with certain extensionality surrounding the nanoparticles seems to be a prerequisite for inducing synergistic toughening effects of the rubbery phase. It is concluded that although pregrafted nano-SiO2 particles are not good enough to reduce the notch sensitivity of PP, a combination of the grafted nanoparticles and elastomeric modifier is able to significantly increase the toughness of PP including the notch impact resistance while basically maintaining the tensile strength of PP.
