High peak power operation of a 100μm-core, Yb-doped rod-type photonic crystal fiber amplifier

摘要
We report on the performance of an Yb-doped, 100 mu m-core, rod-type photonic crystal fiber (PCF) used as the power amplifier in an actively controlled master-oscillator/power-amplifier optical (MOPA) source. Such PCF is the largest-core fiber to date to exhibit concurrent single-mode beam quality and robust linear polarization in its output. From this MOPA, we obtained peak power in excess of 1.35MW with excellent spectral brightness.
