摘要
Theory: Ethnic civic incorporation theory provides three hypotheses in regard to immigrants' adopting American values (i.e., incorporation). Hypotheses: (1) Mexican-Americans will become incorporated as they acculturate regardless of ethnic consciousness. (2) Mexican-Americans will not incorporate regardless of acculturation or ethnic consciousness. (3) Greater ethnic consciousness will reduce civic incorporation. Methods: Multiple regression analysis is done on a national survey of Mexican-Americans. Results: At all levels of acculturation, Mexican-Americans are no less likely and often more Likely to endorse values of individualism and patriotism than are Angles. This finding has implications for the current debates on immigration and efforts to discriminate against immigrants.
