摘要：

The academic library's teaching role remains marginal. The utilitarian foundations of The United States' colleges and universities as well as current developments render this marginalization untenable. Those same factors also reinforce the need for formal recognition of library instruction as a necessary component of the general educational requirement of colleges and universities.
