Over the past few years, there has been a tremendous growth in minimally invasive cardiac surgery. As smaller and alternative incisions are used, instruments such as the da Vinci robotic system, which has recently gained FDA-approval, make this feasible. A review of the evolution of minimally invasive heart surgery is included, as are the most recent clinical results.
