摘要
Researchers working with hematopoietic stem cells first proposed that the cells responded to their microenvironment almost four decades ago. A combination of new technology and thinking like an ecologist can help to understand the complex interactions between stem cells and their surroundings in different tissue types; why some stem cells differentiate and why some remain static, and thedifferences between embryonic and adult stem cells.
