Theory of scanning tunneling spectroscopy on Pd(111)

摘要
Scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS) on a clean Pd(111) surface is studied within a layer-KKR scattering theoretical approach and Green function formalism. Agreement is found between the theoretical and experimental features in STS on the clean Pd(111) surface. The theoretical analysis of the spectral features reveals that they originate from bulk band structure features (-1.4, -0.3 and + 1.1 V) and structures at -0.6, 0.4 and 1.4 V originating from the scattering of the tunneling electron between the barrier and the Pd layers.
