The reaction of aldehydes, beta-dicarbonyl compounds and urea (Bigineili reaction) has been performed over solid acid catalysis, under solventless conditions or in water affording dihydropyrimidines in good yield and selectivity. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
