摘要
Recent changes in the management of patients with respiratory distress have led to improvements in outcome for patients with ARDS. A number of promising therapies are currently being investigated; all share the premise that mechanical ventilation should be gentle and that the lungs should be allowed to rest during the healing process. Although surgical patients and multiply-injured patients occasionally present problems that are different from those presented by medical patients, the basic treatment principles for ARDS are the same in the two populations.
