摘要：

This paper focuses on work intensification effected by the introduction of a new handling system in a clothing plant. Worker response is discussed in relation to issues of gender; absence and turnover and particular reference is pain to the studies of clothing workshop conflict conducted by Edwards and Scullion (1982).
