Thermal expansion and damping characteristics of Y-TZP

摘要
The thermal expansion and mechanical loss behavior associated with the martensitic transformation in yttria stabilized tetragonal zirconia (Y-TZP) polycrystals were studied using dilatometry and low-frequency mechanical spectroscopy measurements. Both experimental techniques revealed similar transformation characteristics and comparable transformation temperatures related to both the forward and reverse martensitic transformation. A transformation related damping behavior was observed in 2 mol % yttria stabilized TZP ceramics. The damping capacity and thermal dilatation behaviour of the ceramics were studied in terms of transformation of the tetragonal zirconia phase.
