Sulfonated carbon nanotubes as a strong protonic acid catalyst

摘要
Sulfonated carbon nanotubes with a high density of sulfonic acid groups were prepared by reacting concentrated sulfuric acid with multiwall carbon nanotubes at high temperature. Activated carbon was treated by the concentrated sulfuric acid by the same procedure used for the preparation of H 2SO4-treated CNTs to obtain acidified activated carbon. SEM-EDS images of H2SO4-treated CNTs showed that morphology and structure of the carbon nanotubes did not change after sulfonation with concentrated sulfuric acid at high temperature.
