Free style free flaps may be harvested from any region of the body where a skin vessel of a reasonable size is found. The Doppler probe is a reliable method for locating skin vessels. When Doppler mapping is combined with the ability to dissect skin vessels in a retrograde fashion through their intramuscular or septocutaneous course, more flaps, that would be considered free style flaps, could be harvested. Establishing the safety and reliability of using this method in one region is essential for the continuing search for more optimal and convenient donor sites.
