摘要
Vapor pressure deficit over the land surface is needed in physically based calculations of evaporation and for estimating the efficiency of water utilization to perform photosynthesis by terrestrial plant communities. The two primary data required for this variable, namely air temperature and vapor pressure (or humidity), are currently available at isolated locations. Spatially representative global data of observed vapor pressure deficit are not currently available. This paper presents an approach for estimating monthly mean deficit from satellite observations and then evaluates the accuracy of the estimated values through comparison with globally distributed surface measurements, The standard error of estimate was found to be 4 hPa.
