Optical control of molecular orientational dynamics in liquid crystals

摘要
A unified and self-consistent theory that describes the circularly polarized light-nematic liquid crystal interaction is presented. Possibilities of all-optical control of molecular orientational dynamics using the light intensity and angular momentum are demonstrated. A simple experimental technique is introduced to study these phenomena and confirm the main theoretical predictions. The coupling of planar and twist deformations is used to describe qualitatively the intensity dependence of deformation both in weak and strong excitation regimes.
