摘要
Recent papers published in Nature have assumed that the mechanism of limb development in all vertebrates is the same1,2. But if mechanisms were conserved in all tetrapods, we should expect to find them in amphibians as well as in amniotes. We have examined the expression of eight important signalling and regulatory molecules in Xenopus limb development and find that the assumption is not correct. This finding has obvious implications for our understanding of limb development and evolution.
