摘要
Cyanobacteria establish symbiotic relationships in a remarkable range of plant species. Our current understanding of the events that lead up to the establishment of symbioses indicates that communication between the two partners is vital. In this review, we explore the basis of the interaction between cyanobacteria and plants, and discuss the significance of this - both to the evolution of chloroplasts and to the potential for encouraging nitrogen-fixing symbioses in crop plants.
