Preparation of nanosized perovskites and spinels through a silica xerogel template route

The synthesis of nanosized perovskites and spinels with large surface areas using silica xerogels as templates was described. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis was used for the identification of the products obtained by the template technique. The values of the BET surface area (SBET) were calculated using the nitrogen adsorption isotherms for the spinels and perovskites prepared by the template method. It was found that the perovskite exhibited a surface area of 110 m2/g when prepared by the template method, which was 15 times higher than the area of the perovskite prepared using the citrate method.
