摘要：

Dogs with Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF) may serve as sentinels for the disease in humans. Thus, ideally, both veterinarians and physicians should report cases of RMSF to their state public health authorities. Any cases of fever of unknown origin between April and September in humans or dogs in areas in which RMSF is endemic should be carefully investigated to rule out RMSF. There is a need for better communication between physicians and veterinarians when cases of potentially zoonotic diseases are seen.
