An overview of mechanochemical synthesis in metallic systems shows that mechanical activation of metal mixtures is the efficient way to prepare nanocomposites. It is showed that mechanocomposites in metal systems with negative mixing enthalpies as a system with unusually large contact surface can serve as precursors for subsequent chemical reactions of their components in mechanochemical, thermal, self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) and other processes. The influence of preliminary activation for SHS is studied in more detail. These investigations demonstrated a possibility, by means of mechanocomposites, to vary the parameters of combustion, the morphology and phase composition of products, and to extend the concentration limits of SHS. Also mechanocomposites can stabilize extremely large surface of active components. It is difficult to obtain and conserve them by other methods. This is a real route to create materials with new properties: solid-phase curative cosmetics with decorative properties, pigments, new forms of pharmaceuticals, materials for hydrogen storage, metal cements, precursors for Raney catalysts, etc.
