The reaction of copper and iron species with thiuram sulfides: copper and iron dithiocarbamate derivatives

The reaction chemistry of thiuram mono- and disulfides with copper(I), (II) and copper metal is reviewed. Cu(I) and the monosulfides afford adducts, while Cu(II) yields an oxidized form of the ligand, which is also obtained upon oxidation with ferric chloride or solutions of halogens. The disulfides and copper metal lead to Cu(I) dithiocarbamates, while oxidation of copper(I) species affords Cu(III)-containing mixed valence species. Similarly Cu(II) and the disulfides yield neutral Cu(III) complexes. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
