Bosons in a magnetic trap: The condensate wave function

摘要
Various properties of the condensate wave function of a Bose gas confined in a magnetic trap are discussed. Special emphasis is given to the role played by the interaction in determining the wave function in both coordinate and momentum space. The predictions of the Thomas-Fermi approximation are compared with the solution of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation. Explicit results (both numerical and analytical) for the kinetic energy of the condensate are presented.
