摘要
The considerations presented and elaborated upon in the very valuable study by George Bartzokis rest on the supposition that peculiarities of aging as well as the pathogenesis of frequently occurring degenerative disorders are in part traceable to idiosyncrasies in the construction of the human central nervous system (differences between early and late-maturing oligodendrocytes, delayed myelin development). The author develops his respective trains of thought and lines of argumentation essentially in relation to the cerebral cortex and relates them, insofar as neurodegenerative disorders are concerned, chiefly to Alzheimer's disease (AD). Since we agree, broadly speaking, with many of the ideas and trajectories of Bartzokis' study, the present commentary seeks to extrapolate upon a few points that appear to us to be of essential importance for the ongoing discussion.
