On the cover: Electron micrographs of GABA-IR neurons and their synapses in the BL of the rat amygdala. A: Three myelinated GABA-IR axons (Ga) are shown. B: Two GABA-IR dendrites (Gd1,2) receive symmetric synapses (arrows) from a GABA-IR axon terminal (Gt). C: A GABA-IR dendrite (Gd) receives a symmetric synapse (arrow) from a GABA-IR axon terminal (Gt) containing two mitochondria, and a GABA-IR spine (s) nearby receives an asymmetric synapse (arrowhead) from an unlabeled axon terminal (Ut). D: Three GABA-IR dendrites (Gd1-3) are shown, one (Gd1) is closely apposed (arrow) to a GABA-IR terminal (Gt1), and other two (Gd2,3) receive asymmetric synapses (arrowheads) from unlabeled axon terminals (Ut). Another GABA-IR terminal (Gt2) does not form any synapses at this section. Scale bar = 0.2 μm.
