The catalytic dihydroxylation of p-methoxybenzoate esters of various bishomoallylic alcohols proceeds with excellent enantioselectivity and in the case of diolefins, with improved regioselectivity using a designed catalyst that incorporates an N-anthracenylmethyl group to enhance catalyst-substrate binding interactions.
