The solid solutions Li(Co1-xLix/3Mn2x/3)O-2 were prepared over the whole compositional range between two kinds of layer structured compounds, LiCoO2 and Li2MnO3. The performance of the solid solution as the cathode of the lithium cell was comparable with that of LiCoO2, although the discharge capacity decreased with the increase of x. The cyclic voltammetry of the Mn-substituted samples showed two anodic peaks at 3.9 and 4.4 V. (C) 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
